Synoyms

Apamarga-It cures problems like vomiting etc.
Kinihi- It cures the eruptive conditions like vrana etc.
Kharmanjari- Its inflorescence gives rise to very rough feeling for touch.
Pratyakpuspa- Its flowers are oppositely facing on the spike.
Adhahshalya- the fruits stick to the cloths, make the plant hard to grab and act as weapon in favor of the plant.

Habit

Erect annual- perennial herb, 1/3 – 1 m or more in height.

Habitat

Peninsular India and Sri Lanka.

Morphology

  • Stem - generally simple in annuals and branched from woody base when perennial.
  • Leaves- Simple, opposite, petiolate, distantly arranged.
  • Flowers- Flowers of terminal male & female in axillary fascicles together, greenish yellow.
  • Fruits (फल) - Look like a Brihi (Tandulya).
  • Seeds- Small, brown in color.
