Synoyms

ताम्रपल्लव- Tender leaves are coppery red coloured.
गन्धपुष्प- Flowers of Asoka are aromatic.
हेमपुष्प- Flowers are golden in colour.
पिंडपुष्प- Inflorescence in globose.
मधुपुष्प- Plant flowers in Vasant Ritu.
स्त्रीप्रिय- Women like this plant or Asoka is useful in striroga.

Habit

Evergreen tree 15-20 meters high.

Habitat

Ashok is grown in India, Burma, and Malaysia. In India, it can be found especially in Himalayas, Kerala, and Bengal and entire south region. It is a rain-forest tree.

Morphology

  • Stem/Bark - Cylindrical stem, with dark green to greenish grey
  • Leaves are compound, 15cm long and of oblong shape.
  • Flowers- Red Colour Numerous, Fragrant 7.5—10 cm across.
  • Fruits (फल) - Pod Black 10-25 cm long 4.5-5 cm wide.
  • Seeds- 4-8 cm oblong.
