Habit

Perennial, bulbous herb.

Habitat

Grows in tropical and subtropical regions of India and Southeast Asia. Commonly found in gardens, forest clearings, and moist lands. Native to India, Sri Lanka, Vietnam.

Morphology

  • Bulbous herb with long, strap-like leaves (up to 1 meter long)
  • Flowers: White or pinkish, large, funnel-shaped, fragrant, arranged in umbels
  • Bulb: Underground, large and fleshy
  • Stem: Very short or absent
  • Fruit: Capsule with black seeds

Medicinal uses

Used in chronic inflammatory conditions, glandular swellings and tumors.
Beneficial in uterine fibroids, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Applied externally for arthritis, swelling and joint pain.
Helps in fevers, urinary disorders and immune modulation.
Leaf juice is used for wound healing and skin infections.
