Synoyms

जम्बू - Fruit of jambu is edible.
महास्कन्ध -Jambu plant has very big and strong trunk.
महाफला -Fruit is relatively big.
फलेंद्र - Jambu fruit is regarded as one of the best fruits.
सुरभिपत्र - Leaves have aroma.
महारस - Fruit is juicy.
नीलफला -Fruit of jambu is bluish puple in colour.

Habit

An evergreen tree up to 60-90 ft. high.

Habitat

Found in the all over part of India.

Morphology

  • Stem - Erect, woody, branched, thick, cylindrical with grey bark.
  • Leaves- Simple, opposite, ovate lanceolate 10-12 cm long and 3-4 cm wide, margin entire and tip acute.
  • Flowers- White, small, sepals 4 in number.
  • Fruits- Berry, succulent, globose, dark purple colour.
  • Seeds- Single purple to brown colour.
