Habit

Large, fast-growing, deciduous tree.

Habitat

Native to India and Southeast Asia, commonly found in tropical and sub-tropical forests, riverbanks and moist regions.

Morphology

  • Tree grows up to 45 meters in height
  • Leaves: Large, opposite, ovate, glossy green
  • Flowers: Bright yellow to orange, fragrant, in dense round heads (globular inflorescence)
  • Fruits: Small, numerous, aggregated in a ball-shaped head
  • Bark: Brownish-grey, smooth in young trees

Beneficial in gum diseases and mouth ulcers (gargling with decoction)
Traditionally used in snake bites and poison cases
